OEMHL Annual Award Winners

Phil Jago receives the John Raine AAA Trainer of the Year Award presented by John Raine. Phil was trainer of the Ottawa 67s AAA minor midget team.

Susan Vered receives the AAA award for Manager of The Year presented on behalf of the OEMHL by Mark Cobbold, President of the Ottawa Valley Titans. Susan was manager of the OVT major midget team.

Darrell Campbell receives AAA Coach of the Year Award presented on behalf of the OEMHL by Jenn Primeau, 67s OEMHL Rep. Darrell's Ottawa 67s major midget team was League and Playoff Champions, Gatineau's Kiwanis Tournament Finalists and Central Region Midget AAA Championship Silver Medalists.

Nicholas Seed (left, Upper Canada Cyclones) and Philip Brougham (Ottawa 67s) were the winners of the 2009-10 AAA major midget bursary awards. The awards are presented by the OEMHL in recognition of leadership skills, role model characteristics, work ethic and positive attitude - both on and off the ice - together with academic excellence and demonstrated future career planning. Both Nick and Phil plan on attending university and play CIS hockey.
MINOR BANTAM CHAMPIONS CROWNED

The Ottawa Junior 67's minor bantams defeated the Upper Canada Cyclones 3-1 in the fifth game of their final series, taking the series 7 points to 3, and are now the receipents of the "Barrie Labrie Cup".
JUNIOR 67'S CAPTURE MAJOR MIDGET CHAMPIONSHIP:

The major midget championship final wrapped up on March 20th with the Ottawa Junior 67's taking game 6 and the series 7 points to 5 over the Ottawa Senators with a 5-3 victory. Both the 67's and Senators will now represent the ODMHA at the Central Canada Regional Midget Championships being hosted by Vaughn Kings. Congratulations to both teams.

ODHA Announces First Ever Under 16 Team - Archive under News 2009/10
Ottawa ON - July 8th, 2010 - the Ottawa District Hockey Association in partnership with the ODMHA and OEMHL is pleased to announce the selection of our first ever ODHA Under 16 Team that will take part in the Inaugural Ontario Under 16 Prospect Tournament in Kitchener August 12-15, 2010. The Tournament will take place at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex.

World Championship Legacy Fund Co-Sponsors Midget Bursary Program

The OEMHL is pleased to announced that the World Junior Hockey Championship Legacy Fund will co-sponsor the league's major midget bursary program with matching funds over the next two years.
The OEMHL bursary program was one of 14 successful recipients sharing $159,900 in funding announced by Cyril Leeder, vice-chair of the 2009 World Junior organizing committee, at a June 7th media announcement. The intent of the world junior program is to see the impact and financial legacy of the championship benefit the hockey community in the ODHA district.
The funding received by the OEMHL will expand and augment a post-secondary school bursary program for graduating AAA midget players. Five $1,000 bursaries will be award in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 years to successful major midget applicants who demonstrate on-ice and off-ice leadership skills and academic excellence. This year will be the third year of the OEMHL program and application details will be posted on the website or obtained through AAA major midget coaches, in February. The OEMHL/World Junior bursaries will be awarded at the league's annual general meeting in May.

ODHA UNDER 16 Coaching Staff Announced
Congratulations to Gregg Kennedy and Blake Callaghan on being named by the ODHA as Head Coach and General Manager of the under 16 team. Gregg and Blake will take the team from our area to represent the ODHA in Kitchener.
The ODHA also announced that the U16 group will be short listed to approximately 25-30 players and a second mini camp will be held near the end of July where the ODHA coaching staff will select a team of 20 players to participate in the Team Ontario Selection Tournament to be held in Kitchener from August 12th to the 15th.
OEMHL AAA ALUMNI – Receives ODHA Spirit of Hockey Bursary Award
Eric Drouin. Eric is from Embrun and plays Junior C hockey with Les Aigles de St-Isidore and alumni of the Ottawa Jr. 67's AAA Hockey Club.
He graduated from L'Ecole Secondaire Catholique in Embrun and will be pursuing a degreein Electrical Engineering at the University of Ottawa.

OEMHL AAA Alumni - Kevin Tansey Commits to Clarkson University
The Cumberland Grads are proud to announce that defenceman Kevin Tansey has verbally committed to play for Clarkson University.
As a 16 year old Kevin played a key role for the Grads both in the regular season and the playoffs. Often matched up against the opponents top line, Kevin continually got better throughout the season and had many scouts turning their attention his way.
The Cumberland Grads look forward to Kevins continued progression this season.
Congratulations Kevin.

AAA HOCKEY GIVEN APPROVAL
At a special general meeting of the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association held on January 30th, the membership supported the motion put forward that the top tier of hockey will be considered that of 'AAA' commencing with the 2010-2011 playing season. AAA hockey was introduced within the ODMHA three years ago as a pilot project and with the endorsement provided by the membership, the OEMHL now becomes a full fledged league within the ODMHA.
